About The Kia Sephia
In the early 1990s, Kia began production of the Sephia, a compact car to replace the Concord/Capital lines.
The original car could be found on sale in some markets as the Mentor and in Indonesia, it was marketed as the Timor.
During the second generation of the Sephia, you could find it on sale as the Schuma or Spectra – depending on which part of the world you were in.
It acted as a bargain alternative compact car that lacked some of the comfort features that people at the time could live without.
Buyers had the option of one of four gasoline engines that ranged from 1.5-liter to 1.8-liters in size – mated to either a 5-speed manual or 44-speed automatic transmission.
The Kia Sephia was always offered as a 4-door sedan or a 5-door liftback (sort of like a hatchback but with a longer sloping roofline).
In Indonesia, the Timor version of the car was in the style of a station wagon, exclusive to that region.
As the second generation came into production in 1997 the station wagon version was withdrawn from sale.
Engine and transmission options remained the same apart from the loss of one of the mid-size options.
This second-generation Sephia was designed with Mazda’s help and was improved with many new features such as electric windows and mirrors.
The liftback version was now being marketed as the Spectra in the United States and sold alongside the standard sedan version.
The line ran through to 2003 when Kia introduced the Cerato/Forte as the new compact car replacement.
