About The Buick Rendezvous
The Buick Rendezvous was first delivered to customers in the 2002 model year.
It’s a mid-size crossover SUV that was also sold under the Pontiac brand by General Motors as the Aztek.
These two models were the first crossover models to hit the market from General Motors and included many experimental features.
They were front-wheel-drive as standard but with optional four-wheel-drive if upgraded.
Drivetrains were fairly restricted, you could opt for a 3.4, 3.5 or 3.6-liter gasoline mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.
All Rendezvous examples had 4-doors and boasted a large amount of cargo room with the aim of attracting a younger demographic back to the Buick brand.
It was designed to have the benefits of a minivan with the practicality of an SUV in an affordable package.
Underneath the car was fully independent suspension all the way around to aid in ride quality and performance both on and offroad.
Futuristic instrument clusters and heads-up displays helped give the car a cool appeal with young buyers and set itself apart.
The Rendezvous exceeded sales expectations and helped catapult the Buick brand onto the radar of younger automobile buyers.
On the other hand, the Pontiac Aztek failed to meet targets even though it was nearly identical and assembled in the same Mexican factory.
Eventually, the Enclave and Envision took over from this line in 2007 as General Motors refined their crossover offerings.
