About The Buick Encore

In 2012 General Motors began production of the Buick Encore subcompact crossover SUV.

At the same time, they also launched the same model but with different features through several of their other brands.

You can find a very similar car being sold as the Chevrolet Trax in the USA and in Europe you can find it sold as either a Vauxhall or Opel Mokka.

Underneath they are all pretty much the same car but differ slightly when you look at their bodywork and styling.

Inside the body, all three models have different levels of luxury and the features that come as standard vary (as well as the price tag).

General Motors created these various subcompact crossover SUVs (including the Encore) by using the Gamma 2 platform.

This chassis had already been heavily developed and was put to use in popular models such as the Opel/Vauxhall Karl/Viva and the Chevrolet Spark and Cobalt.

Engine choices for the original first-generation Encore ranged from 1.4-liters to 1.8-liters in size with both gasoline and turbodiesel options available.

In 2020 the second generation model came on sale and now the car was only available with 2 engine options and the choice of a 6-speed automatic transmission or a CVT.

This reduction in choice of engine (both being low-displacement turbocharged gasoline options) is due to the model being a China-only offering.

In North America, you can still find the first-generation Buick Encore on sale with no mention of a new model any time soon.
