About The Chevrolet Traverse

Production of the Chevrolet Traverse began in 2008 for the 2009 model year.

It was classed as a full-size crossover SUV at first like its badge-engineered siblings:

  • Saturn Outlook
  • GMC Acadia
  • Buick Enclave

All three models were almost identical apart from the body being slightly different and varying features as standard and the level of luxury between the brands.

They were all sold with the same engine and transmission, a 3.6-liter V6 mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and optional all-wheel-drive if upgraded.

This Traverse model was intended to replace the original TrailBlazer model from the American automaker – a model that has since been re-released.

In 2013 the car got a mid-cycle facelift with Camero-inspired rear lights and an improved automatic transmission.

The touchscreen infotainment system was now included with the Traverse as standard now and the quality of the interior improved across all trims.

When crash-tested by the NHTSA in 2016 the first generation version of the crossover SUV scored an almost perfect score, losing one star out of everything for the slight risk of rollover.

Second Generation Chevrolet Traverse

When the second-generation Traverse entered showrooms in 2018 it was reclassed as a mid-size crossover SUV alongside its badge-engineered siblings.

As all models are built on the same platform it only seemed natural their classifications would change too, the largest change appears to be the height of the models reducing by a few inches.

The Saturn variation of the SUV had been dropped going into this generation as that brand had been dissolved after a big shake-up by GM in 2010.

A new addition to the line was added in its place though, the Cadillac XT6 was released using the same components and offered customers a much higher level of luxury inside the car.

A new engine choice was added to the order sheet: a 2-liter turbocharged gasoline option for the RS trim with only a 2WD drivetrain option.

The transmission options remained at just one though, although the 6-speed automatic was upgraded to a 9-speed.
