About The Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep Grand Cherokee was first being designed in the 1980s as a replacement for the Cherokee model.

It wasn’t until the early 1990s that it was finally launched alongside the Cherokee and treated as a larger more upmarket model instead of replacing it.

Jeep described it as a “luxury” offering and the base model was in such low demand that the company removed it and focused on the higher-level models instead from 1994 onwards.

In 1999 the second-generation Grand Cherokee hit showrooms and was almost completely redesigned, 127 parts were carried over but these were mostly fasteners.

The most major changes were improved fuel economy through advancing engine technology and reduced weight due to better materials and computer-aided design.

Outside of the car, the design of the body went from being boxy to a modern curved appearance with color-matching bumpers.

Inside, the Grand Cherokee boasted much more room with larger doors aiding access and dual-zone climate control.

2005 saw the introduction of the third-generation and again the tradition of packing modern features continued with DVD players in the rear and double-wishbone suspension underneath.

Then 2011 saw the fourth generation that further improved that suspension technology and added Bluetooth connectivity and uConnect inside the car.

The fourth generation was the first to offer height-adjustable suspension to the model to make the Grand Cherokee better both on and off-road.

More recently the car has entered its firth-generation in 2021 with it brought hybrid technologies for the first time and connectivity for both Apple and Android devices.

To push itself ahead of the competition the newer Jeep Grand Cherokee will feature a premium 19-speaker sound system and massaging front seats.
